In English, Year 1 have been enjoying our class text The Snail and the Whale by Julia Donaldson. As part of our learning, the children became researchers and used a range of sources to gather information about whales. They explored books, videos, online resources and shared their knowledge with one another to develop their understanding.
Using the information they collected, the children created their own whale fact files. They worked hard to organise their writing using appropriate features of non-fiction texts, including headings, titles and question subheadings. The children also focused on writing clear sentences, using capital letters, full stops and question marks accurately.
We were very impressed with the children’s enthusiasm for learning and their growing confidence in finding, selecting and presenting information independently.
