Welcome to Nursery! We have begun settling beautifully into our new environment. This half-term will focus on helping us to feel happy, safe and secure while developing friendships, confidence and independence.
In English, we will share Owl Babies, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, Elmer and Peace at Last. We will explore these wonderful stories through songs, actions, sensory experiences, small-world play, role play and mark-making. We will be encouraged to listen, join in with repeated words and phrases and begin sharing our own ideas.
We will take part in short Little Wandle Foundations sessions, enjoying listening games, songs and rhymes. We will explore different sounds and begin developing the important listening and communication skills needed for future reading and writing.
In maths, we will learn through practical activities, playful games and number songs. We will practise counting, recognise small quantities without counting and match one object to each number. We will also explore size, position, sorting and simple numerals while developing our skills through stacking, threading and building.
In Understanding the World, we will talk about our families, homes and personal experiences. We will look at baby photographs, discuss how we have changed and explore toys from the past and present. We will also investigate our local area and use our senses to discover more about the world around us.
In art, we will explore faces and features using mirrors before creating our own portraits. We will experiment with different tools, colours and materials while developing our creativity and fine-motor skills.
Our Personal, Social and Emotional Development will be at the heart of everything we do. We will learn classroom routines, practise sharing and taking turns, form new friendships and become increasingly confident in managing our own needs.
We are looking forward to a joyful half-term filled with stories, songs, exploration and play. We cannot wait to see our personalities shine as we become confident and enthusiastic members of Nursery!
