This week in Maths, Year 1 enjoyed playing a fun and engaging game using a 100 square to develop their number knowledge and reasoning skills. Working in pairs, the children took turns to hide numbers while their partner used clues to work out which numbers were missing. They confidently used mathematical vocabulary such as one more, one less, two more, two less, and practised counting in 10s to explain and justify their thinking.
As well as developing their mathematical understanding, the children demonstrated excellent teamwork by listening carefully to one another, taking turns fairly, and encouraging their partner throughout the activity. It was fantastic to see them collaborating so positively while building their confidence with numbers in such an enjoyable way.
