This week, we had some very special visitors in Reception! Nursery kindly shared their ducklings with us, and we were lucky enough to help look after them for a few days after they had hatched from their eggs.

We spent lots of time observing the ducklings closely, asking curious questions and learning about how they grow and change. The children were fascinated by their fluffy feathers, tiny webbed feet and the sounds they made as they explored their new surroundings.

The ducklings inspired plenty of discussion, wonder and excitement. We also enjoyed expressing our thoughts through writing by creating messages, cards and letters for our feathered friends. It was a wonderful opportunity to develop our communication, language and writing skills while caring for living creatures.

We loved every moment with the ducklings and will remember this very special experience for a long time!

“Where do eggs come from?”

“Why are they yellow?”

“Can they fly?”

“How do they change colour?”

“How long does it take for them to grow?”
