This week our nursery children were very excited to welcome some duckling eggs into the setting. The children showed great curiosity and care as they watched the eggs and talked about what might happen when the ducklings hatch. To celebrate the arrival of the ducklings, the children made beautiful cards for the ducklings and decorated them with lots of colour, drawings and kind messages. They were proud to display their creations around the classroom. Once the ducklings had hatched, the children had the opportunity to gently stroke them with careful hands while learning how to be calm, kind and respectful around animals. It was a lovely way to help the children develop confidence and empathy. The children also enjoyed imaginative water play in the water tray, where they played with toy ducklings and explored floating, splashing and pouring. This helped to extend conversations about ducks, water and how ducklings like to swim. It has been a wonderful experience full of excitement, learning and nurturing care, and the children have loved every moment of our duckling adventure
