This week in Year 4 art, we explored the exciting world of cityscape sketching. Using a range of art pencils, we experimented with different sketching styles and techniques to capture the feel of a busy skyline. We began by looking closely at the shapes of buildings in the London skyline. We noticed how some structures are tall and narrow, while others are wider with interesting rooftops and angles. By breaking the buildings down into simple shapes, we were able to sketch more confidently and build up our drawings step by step. Once our basic outlines were in place, we started thinking about adding details. Windows, rooftops, and architectural features helped bring our cityscapes to life and made each piece unique. To develop our work further, we used charcoal pencils to explore shading. We experimented with dark and light tones, learning how shading can create depth and contrast. This helped our buildings stand out and gave our drawings a more realistic and dramatic effect.
