Year 2 has been learning all about the life of Florence Nightingale in preparation for our class trip to the Florence Nightingale Museum on Monday! The children have examined her childhood; education and training in Germany and her journey to Scutari Hospital. They have heard of Florence’s disgust when she arrived at Scutari hospital and witnessed the conditions within. Finally we learnt about how Florence and her team of nurses ensured that patient care at Scutari improved and how she went on to affect Nursing and Hospitals within the UK in her later years.

As a culmination project, and because we love Art, Year 2 sketched and painted portraits of Florence Nightingale! As preparation for this lesson we looked at the life and works of Vincent Van Gogh, including his portrait work.
