Year 6 have been taking part in Mindfulness sessions this half-term. The sessions known as .breathe (dot breathe) have been designed to help the children prepare for secondary school and beyond. They think about worries, stresses and anxieties in life and how to manage them. To help manage them they take time to breathe, paying particular attention to feeling the air come in and out and try to feel grounded in the moment. The breathing exercises involve breathing in for 3 seconds and out for 5 then trying to build this up focusing on the plus two rule – two more seconds breathing out than in.

Last week they also learnt about the benefits of sleep in our ‘beditation’ session. We recognised the dangers of not sleeping enough, including how this can make us stressed, unfocused and of course, tired. We concluded that most of the class were not getting enough sleep and that this was something we needed to work on.

We have been really impressed with how the class have done in the sessions and know many of them have been trying it at home too!
