The children have had a wonderful first week back at school and have settled in brilliantly. It has been lovely to see so many happy faces as they have become familiar with their new routines, expectations and classroom environment.
In Maths, we have been getting practical and hands-on, using a range of concrete materials to explore and represent numbers to 10. The children have enjoyed making numbers in different ways and developing their understanding through practical activities.
We have also been learning all about positive behaviour and how we can make our school a happy and safe place for everyone. The children have practised lining up quietly as we move around school, as well as learning important classroom routines such as using quiet voices, sitting nicely and listening carefully. During our circle time sessions, we discussed different ways that people have been kind to us and thought about how their kindness made us feel. It was lovely to hear the children sharing their experiences and recognising the importance of being kind to others.
In English, we have been learning about expanded noun phrases and putting our new skills into practice. The children used expanded noun phrases to describe the front cover of our exciting new book, Man on the Moon. We then took part in some exciting hot seating. The children took turns being Bob and asking questions to Bob, using the information they had gathered from the front cover and the first two pages of the story. They then imagined how Bob might respond and answered questions in character. This was a fantastic opportunity to develop their understanding of the character and use their inference skills.
After such a busy and productive week, the children also enjoyed some well-deserved Golden Time, playing games and having fun together.
It has been a busy but brilliant first week, and we are so proud of how well the children have settled in. We are looking forward to another fantastic week of learning, exploring and having fun together!
