What is the most effective way of learning? Well, in year six we believe it is when we can learn in a practical environment. In this lesson, the year six children were measuring the capacity of different jugs and observing how much water an object can hold to simulate a word problem. They were also given the opportunity to estimate then measure the length and width of our sports pitch and learned how to calculate the area and perimeter of a series of shapes. I was most impressed with their ability to collaborate, explain and listen to each other when they were completing their work within a small group.
