Year 4 have been exploring the beautiful botanical artwork of Marianne North, taking inspiration from her colourful paintings of plants and landscapes from around the world.

The children began by experimenting with different watercolour techniques, including washes, wet-on-wet painting and layering. We explored how artists use colour and detail to create a sense of depth, thinking carefully about the foreground, middle ground and background.

Using their new skills, the children created their own botanical landscapes, combining mountains, sea and tropical plants. They worked carefully to build up layers of colour, adding darker tones and finer details to bring their paintings to life. We are incredibly proud of their final pieces and the creativity and patience they have shown throughout this project!
