This week in Reception, we have been busy developing our storytelling skills through the traditional tale The Three Little Pigs!

We have been using a text map to help us remember and retell the story in the correct sequence. By following the pictures and actions, we have been practising using familiar story language, repeating key phrases and developing our confidence when speaking in full sentences.

Oracy is an important part of our learning in Reception, as talking helps us to organise our thoughts, develop our vocabulary and communicate our ideas with others. Retelling familiar stories provides wonderful opportunities to practise speaking clearly, listening carefully and expressing ourselves with confidence.

We particularly enjoyed joining in with the repeated phrases, especially “I’ll huff and I’ll puff and I’ll blow your house down!” Through our storytelling, we have been developing our sequencing skills, understanding of story structure and ability to use language for different purposes.

We are becoming wonderful little storytellers, and it has been lovely to see our confidence and enthusiasm grow as we bring this traditional tale to life!

We have attached the text map so that you can share it with your child at home!
