What an exciting discovery we made in Reception this week! Whilst exploring our outdoor area, we spotted something rather unusual growing in the ground. We looked closely and wondered what it could be. It was enormous!
We decided to investigate and soon discovered that it was a giant turnip! But how were we going to get it out? It looked liked somebody had already had tried to pull it out as “the roots [were] pointing up”. We tried pulling it, but it simply would not budge! We quickly realised that we needed to work together. With lots of teamwork, determination and a great big HEAVE, HO!, we finally managed to pull the enormous turnip out of the ground!
This wonderful experience brought our story The Enormous Turnip to life. We have been developing our communication and language skills by learning new vocabulary, asking thoughtful questions and retelling the story using actions and repeated phrases. We also explored the importance of perseverance, cooperation and helping one another.
What a fantastic way to bring our learning to life! We certainly discovered that working together makes even the biggest challenges possible!
