Year 4 become programmers at the CLC!
Year 4 had a fantastic time at the CLC as part of their computing curriculum. The children became programmers for the day, building their own LEGO amusement park rides before bringing them to life through coding.
They learnt lots of important computing vocabulary, including hub, motor, sensor, input, output, sequence, event, port and programming. The children explored how a program can control a motor and how a sensor can provide an input that causes something to happen.
Once their rides were working, the challenge was to improve their programs. Could they make a ride change direction every 15 seconds? Could it start slowly and gradually get faster? Could they add music or program the ride to start after a particular event?
It was a brilliant opportunity for Year 4 to combine creativity, problem-solving, engineering and computing – and seeing their LEGO creations move as a result of their own code made it even more exciting!
