We love our music lessons in Year 2! This term, we have been learning about the incredibly talented percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie. She is such an amazing musician that she performed at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games and can play percussion instruments from all around the world.
We also discovered that Dame Evelyn Glennie is deaf. Despite this, she is able to feel vibrations throughout her body, which helps her to hear and play music in a unique and inspiring way.
In our lessons, we have been learning that percussion instruments are played by banging, scraping, or shaking them. This week, we focused on tuned percussion instruments and had great fun playing simple tunes together. The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and are developing a wonderful understanding of sound, vibration, and rhythm.
