This term, Year 4 children explored the famous Colosseum in Rome through art, using one-point perspective to bring the ancient landmark to life.
We began by learning about the Colosseum’s history — how it was built, who used it, and why it’s still so important today. Then, we learned how to draw using one-point perspective, a technique that helps create depth in a picture by using a vanishing point and straight lines.
The students practiced drawing simple shapes in perspective before moving on to sketch the Colosseum. They focused on drawing the curved arches and structure as it appears to shrink in the distance. It was a challenge, but everyone showed great focus and creativity.
The final artworks were fantastic! All the children used shading to make their drawings more realistic. The results were displayed proudly in our classroom gallery.
This project helped children build skills in art, maths, and history — all while having fun. Well done, Year 4 artists!
