This week our focus story was “Handa’s Surprise”. The children had the opportunity to try the fruit that is named in the story. We talked about how the fruit tasted and the children selected appropriate adjectives to describe the fruit. They then wrote these down independently. During cooking the children made their own fruit kebabs. The children had to make sure they included 7 pieces of fruit on their stick as this was how many pieces of fruit Handa carried in the story. It was great to see the children’s counting skills in action as they worked out how many pieces of fruit they had and how many more they needed to make 7. Everyone then enjoyed eating their fruit kebabs!
