We’re looking forward to an exciting and purposeful Summer Term in Year 5, filled with rich and engaging learning opportunities across the curriculum.
In English, Year 5 will take part in the inspiring Primary Shakespeare Project, exploring A Winter’s Tale. This will provide opportunities to engage with classic literature, develop reading fluency and comprehension, and build confidence in performance, discussion, and creative writing inspired by the play. More details will follow about the dates of rehearsals and the performance.
In Maths, our focus will be on Shape, followed by Position and Direction. Year 5 will develop their understanding of angles, symmetry, and geometric properties, while also learning to describe positions and movements with increasing accuracy. As always, we will continue to strengthen fluency, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
Our wider curriculum continues to offer meaningful and engaging learning experiences.
In Science, Year 5 will study Reproduction, where they will learn about life cycles and the process of reproduction in plants and animals, developing their scientific understanding through enquiry and discussion.
Our Unit of Learning this term is Vikings and Anglo-Saxons (Ancient Britain). Year 5 will explore this fascinating period of history, learning about invasions and settlements, key figures, and how these groups shaped Britain. They will develop their historical enquiry skills and gain a deeper understanding of life in the past.
In RE, Year 5 will explore the question: How did the final five human Sikh Gurus shape Sikhi? This unit will deepen their previous understanding of Sikh beliefs, leadership, and the impact of the Gurus on the Sikh faith.
In Computing, Year 5 will continue developing their Digital Literacy skills, learning how to use technology safely and effectively to support their learning across the curriculum.
In PE, lessons will focus on Tennis and Athletics, helping Year 5 to develop coordination, control, teamwork, and overall fitness while building confidence in a range of physical activities.
We look forward to a busy and rewarding term ahead and thank you, as always, for your continued support.
