We’re looking forward to an exciting and purposeful Spring Term in Year 5, filled with rich and engaging learning opportunities across the curriculum.

In English, pupils will explore the inspiring text Shackleton’s Journey, which will support the development of descriptive writing, inference skills, and resilience-themed discussions. They will also study Shakespeare’s Hamlet, giving them the opportunity to engage with classic literature, explore character and theme, and build confidence in reading challenging texts.

During Debate Week, children will further develop their speaking and listening skills, learning to present balanced arguments and express their opinions clearly and respectfully.

In Maths, our focus will be on Decimals and Percentages, followed by Perimeter and Area. Pupils will strengthen their fluency and deepen their reasoning and problem-solving skills as they apply mathematical concepts in a range of contexts.

Our wider curriculum continues to provide meaningful and engaging learning experiences.

In Science, pupils will study Forces, investigating gravity, friction, air resistance, and water resistance through practical enquiry and scientific investigation.

In Geography, we will continue our unit of learning about the UK, where we will explore different aspects of the United Kingdom, focusing on its human and physical geography. Children will develop their understanding of key features across the UK while strengthening their map skills and locational knowledge.

In RE, pupils will learn about Christianity, focusing on what happens in churches during Lent, Holy Week, and Easter Sunday. This unit will encourage thoughtful reflection and a deeper understanding of Christian beliefs and traditions.

In Computing, children will continue developing their Digital Literacy skills, with a focus on using Microsoft Excel. They will learn how to organise data, create charts, and use basic formulas to support their learning across subjects.

In PE, lessons will centre around Gymnastics, helping pupils to develop strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination while building confidence in creating and performing sequences.

We look forward to a busy and rewarding term ahead and thank you, as always, for your continued support.
