Year 2 had a truly fun-filled morning stepping back in time during our visit to the Florence Nightingale Museum – and what an experience it was!

We were greeted by none other than Florence Nightingale herself, who wasted no time getting us into shape! True to her reputation, Florence’s discipline and orderly nature had us following instructions like seasoned nurses. With energy and enthusiasm, she skillfully shared the story of her remarkable life and legacy, giving us the chance to act out key moments along the way.

We met important people from her life, including her sister and parents, who needed quite a bit of convincing that nursing was a worthy profession! Our young actors rose to the challenge, helping to bring history to life.

From scrubbing toilets to removing a (thankfully imaginary!) dead horse from the well and even lime-washing the walls of Scutari Hospital, we learned just how important cleanliness and infection control were to saving lives. The hands on experience really showed us how Florence revolutionised nursing.

The day also included some dress-up fun, a hunt for significant medals and dresses from her life and a chance to explore fascinating museum exhibits. We left feeling inspired by the incredible impact Florence made and with a much better understanding of how her legacy lives on.

After a brief (and chilly!) picnic, we squeezed in a few famous London landmarks before heading back to school, tired but happy.
