Year 2 have had an excellent week at school made even more exciting by a brilliant trip to Crockford Bridge Farm courtesy of the School Food Matters charity.
We were thrilled to travel in style on a coach that took us all the way to the farm. We were even more thrilled to be given spending money to buy over 4kg of freshly picked rhubarb and 3kg of juicy raspberries! The children were full of enthusiasm as they explored how fruits and vegetables grow. They carefully picked their own produce and filled their punnets with pride. There was even time to uproot a few organic carrots as we learned more about root vegetables. Muddy hands and all!
Back at school the adventure continued in the kitchen where we rolled up our sleeves to make delicious rhubarb and raspberry chutney. We are now in the process of designing colourful labels for our chutney jars ready to sell at market day next week. Watch out… these jars are packed with flavour and creativity!
A huge thank you to School Food Matters for giving us such a rich and hands-on learning experience. An extra special shout-out to our amazing catering team here at STMP who kindly let us use their kitchen and facilities. We couldn’t have done it without you!
