Year 2 had a wonderful time celebrating World Book Day! Throughout the day we enjoyed reading a selection of classic stories, including The Emperor’s New Clothes, The Gingerbread Man, and Hansel and Gretel. The children loved exploring these traditional tales and sharing their thoughts about the characters and events.

In English, we continued working with our class book Zeraffa Giraffa. The children took part in lots of drama activities to help them understand the story and the characters more deeply. They then used their ideas to write speech in their books, carefully using speech marks.

In the afternoon, we carried out a science lesson that was completely computer-free. The children used only non-fiction books to research and learn about polar and desert habitats, thinking carefully about how animals are suited to their environments.

We also spent more time enjoying books together, and every child was given their very own book to take home and keep. We were very lucky to have Miss St John visit Year 2 to read to us, which was a real treat.

Later, in assembly, we celebrated everyone’s fantastic costumes and the effort that had gone into them. We also talked about when reading feels most enjoyable and how choosing the right book can help us truly get lost in a great story.

It was a brilliant day full of stories, imagination and a shared love of reading!
