This week at nursery, our little learners have been exploring the exciting world of space!
The children have loved discovering planets, stars, rockets and astronauts. We talked about how astronauts travel in rockets all the way up into space to explore the Moon and beyond!
👨🚀 Neil Armstrong – The First Man on the Moon
We learned about Neil Armstrong, the very first person to walk on the Moon. In 1969, he travelled on a rocket called Apollo 11 and stepped onto the Moon’s surface.
👩🚀 Helen Sharman – The First British Astronaut
We also learned about Helen Sharman, who was the first British astronaut to go to space. She travelled to space in 1991 and visited the Mir space station. Helen Sharman was born in the UK, and we talked about how exciting it is that someone from our country has been to space!
The children enjoyed pretending to be astronauts just like Helen, wearing space helmets in our role-play area and counting down for rocket launch:
5… 4… 3… 2… 1… BLAST OFF!
What Have We Been Doing?
Making colourful planet pictures
Building rockets with construction blocks
Reading space stories together
Learning fun facts about the Moon and stars
Practising our counting with rocket countdowns
Our nursery astronauts have shown fantastic curiosity and imagination. We are so proud of their enthusiasm for learning about the world — and beyond!
