On Thursday, the Reception children went on a fantastic trip to the British Library!

Our day began as usual with Phonics, independent learning time, and Maths. But after that, things took an exciting turn! Instead of having lunch in the hall, we enjoyed a picnic at Polygon Road Playground. The children loved being outdoors in the sunshine, chatting with their friends as they ate, and then had a brilliant time exploring the playground. Their climbing skills and physical confidence were particularly impressive — they really are adventurous risk-takers in their play!

After playtime, we walked to the British Library, where we were warmly welcomed by the staff leading our workshop. They gave us a guided tour, spoke about the Library’s history, and showed us an incredible variety of books. The children were fascinated and asked lots of thoughtful questions.

We then visited the Learning Centre, where the children had the opportunity to create and tell their very own stories. In my group, our story took place right there in the British Library! The children decided that the problem was a huge giant who was trying to steal all the books and grab people. Thankfully, our brave hero, Christopher, saved the day. His clever solution? He got lots of cakes and threw them at the giant until he ran away! 🍰 Giant defeated!

The children’s storytelling showed wonderful creativity, teamwork, and use of language — they confidently shared their ideas and built on each other’s suggestions.

It was a truly enriching day, full of learning, imagination, and joy. Well done, Reception — we are so proud of you for your enthusiasm and brilliant behaviour throughout the trip! 🌟
