In Nursery, we place great importance on sharing and enjoying nursery rhymes as a key part of early learning.

Traditional rhymes are not only fun and engaging for children, but they also play a vital role in developing early language, listening, and memory skills.

Through daily singing and actions, children learn to recognise rhythm and rhyme, build their vocabulary, and gain confidence in joining in with familiar songs. Many nursery rhymes also support early mathematical understanding. Counting rhymes help children practise counting forwards and backwards, understand the concept of “one more” and “one less,” and begin to notice simple number patterns in a meaningful and memorable way.

By revisiting favourite rhymes regularly, we help children strengthen their communication skills while laying important foundations for early maths learning in an enjoyable and interactive way.
