The Gingerbread Man

This week in nursery the children took part in a PSED lesson all about being kind and recognising unkind behaviour. Linked to our focus story The Gingerbread Man, we explored how the characters in the tale behaved and how their actions made others feel.

The children enjoyed sorting pictures into two groups – “Kind” and “Unkind”. They worked together brilliantly, discussing each picture and giving reasons for their choices. We heard some lovely ideas about what it means to be a good friend, how to help others, and how kind actions can make people feel happy and safe.

As part of our learning, we also talked about stranger danger. We used the story to help us think: Was it safe for the Gingerbread Man to talk to the fox?

Using simple, age-appropriate language, we explained that a stranger is someone we don’t know and that it’s important to stay close to our trusted grown-ups. The children showed great understanding and joined in confidently with our discussions.

It has been a wonderful week of learning, and we are so proud of how thoughtfully the children engaged with this important topic.
