This term our Dt project has been based on textiles. Year 5 had a visit from a CSM graduate called Lucia. She spoke to us about what textiles are, what is textile design and what careers are available in textiles. She showed us some of her work and what she has produced. We were all very impressed and hopefully some of us will be inspired to pursue careers in fashion or textiles in the future. She also taught us some simple stitches that we could use in our work. As part of our Viking and Anglo-Saxon unit of learning, we made some Viking pouches out of felt. First we researched what the Vikings used pouches for and what they were made out of. Then we designed our own version, decorating them with Viking runes. Today, we were at the making stage where we finally sewed them using a template and thread. At first, we found it quite hard to get the stitches right but we got the hang of it. We added a drawstring to them and then they were done! Next, week we will evaluate our pouches.
