This week in Year 4, we’ve been diving into a fascinating topic in our RE lessons – Hindu weddings!
Hindu weddings are rich with tradition, colour, and symbolism, and one of the most meaningful parts of the ceremony is the Saptapadi – the Seven Steps. During this ritual, the bride and groom take seven symbolic steps together around a sacred fire, making seven promises to each other about their life together. These promises focus on values like friendship, love, respect, and working together as equals.
To help us understand this better, we explored what each of the seven steps means and why these values are important not just in marriage, but in all kinds of relationships.
Then came the fun part! We had a go at writing our own “Seven Steps to a Successful and Happy Marriage.” We thought carefully about what makes a strong partnership and came up with some brilliant ideas. Some of our steps included:
- Always be kind and forgive each other.
- Share responsibilities and help each other out.
- Make time to have fun and laugh together.
- Be honest and trust one another.
- Support each other through good times and bad.
It was wonderful to see how thoughtful and mature the class were as they reflected on these values. Not only did we learn more about Hindu culture and beliefs, but we also had a chance to think about what it means to be a good friend, partner, or family member.
A big well done to Year 4 for your enthusiasm, respect, and brilliant ideas!
