This term, Year 2 have been learning about plants in science.
Our key question is: How do plants flourish?

To explore this, the children carried out a scientific enquiry in which they changed one variable for each plant pot, including light, temperature, soil, and water. Over the course of a week, they made daily observations and recorded the effects of each change. From this, the children concluded that plants need water, soil, sunlight, and the right temperature in order to flourish. (See the picture of our cress!)

The children then germinated bean seeds, using their understanding of the ideal conditions needed for growth. Once the seeds had germinated, they carefully observed and drew them. Year 2 learned that germination is the process by which a seed begins to grow.

Following this, the children planted their germinated seeds and are now continuing their learning by using the scientific enquiry skills of observation and measurement to record how much their plants grow each day.
