This term, Year 2 have been learning all about The Lord’s Prayer in their RE lessons. The children have really enjoyed discovering the meaning behind each line and thinking about how it relates to their own lives.
This week, we focused on the words “Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” We began our lesson by exploring what temptation really means. To help us understand, each child was given a (vegan!) jelly bean and asked to smell it. They were told they could eat it straight away ; but if they waited for two hours, they would receive double the number of jelly beans! It was a real test of patience and willpower… and we’re proud to say that only four children couldn’t resist the temptation!
We also had lots of fun acting out different real-life scenarios where we might feel tempted and need to make the right choice. Through drama and role play, we explored situations such as choosing to play games instead of doing homework, dropping litter on the floor, or having a sweet after brushing our teeth!
The children loved bringing these ideas to life and reflected thoughtfully on how temptation can sometimes be difficult to avoid. It’s been wonderful to see Year 2 learning that asking for help and making good choices can guide us to do the right thing , just as the Lord’s Prayer teaches Christians.
