Reception’s current R.E. unit is What Makes a Place Special? As part of our learning, we visited a local church to take part in a special ‘church treasure hunt’. The children were challenged to spot important Christian artefacts and features such as the altar, font, candles, cross, organ, Bible and statues.
We walked to St Pancras Old Church, believed to be one of the oldest Christian worship sites in England – possibly over 1,800 years old! After exploring the church grounds, we quietly made our way inside. Sitting respectfully on the chairs, the children took in their surroundings and worked through their treasure hunt list with great care and curiosity. We found everything – except stained glass windows, which this church doesn’t have!
To end our visit, we spent a few moments in quiet reflection and said a short prayer together. With the sun shining, we then made our way to Plot 10, where the children enjoyed some joyful, active play. A lovely Friday morning!
