In Geography this term, Year One have been developing their early map-reading and spatial awareness skills through highly engaging, hands-on activities. The children explored a range of maps and symbols, beginning with an aerial map of the school grounds. Taking advantage of the beautiful blue skies, the class moved their learning outdoors, using the map to locate key areas of the school and identify a variety of human and physical features.
To deepen their understanding, the children also investigated digital mapping tools such as DigiMaps, allowing them to compare different types of maps and recognise how symbols represent real-world features.
Back in the classroom, the children demonstrated their learning creatively by designing their own maps, using carefully chosen symbols and wonderful illustrations to represent familiar places. This sequence of learning supported the development of key geographic

al skills, encouraged curiosity about their local environment, and promoted confident use of map-based vocabulary
