This week we have been busy exploring the importance of mark making as part of our early writing journey. Our focus was on vertical lines, and the children had lots of fun practising them in different ways — with pens, paintbrushes, chalk, and even their fingers in sand!
We were amazed to see how quickly the children began to use their lines to create pictures. Soon our classroom was full of houses, people, and imaginative drawings inspired by their ideas. It was wonderful to watch them experimenting, sharing their work with friends, and taking pride in what they had created.
Mark making might seem simple, but it is an important step towards writing. By exploring different ways to make marks, the children are building strong hand muscles, developing their co-ordination, and growing in confidence as young writers.
The progress made in just a few short weeks, has been breaktaking!
This is where the lines take us!
