This week, Year 4 became real scientists as we carried out an exciting investigation. Our enquiry question was: “How does the temperature of water affect the time it takes for ice to melt?” To find out, we set up a simple but effective experiment using two cups of water—one filled with warm water and the other with cold. First, we measured the temperature of each cup using thermometers, making sure we recorded the exact starting temperatures. Then we placed an ice cube into each cup and used stopwatches to time how long it took for the ice to melt in each one. We also talked about how to make it a fair test. We made sure the cups were the same size, the ice cubes were similar, and we only changed one variable: the temperature of the water.

The results were clear to see—the ice melted much faster in the warm water! Year 4 worked brilliantly, showing great teamwork and careful measuring skills. We can’t wait for our next investigation!
