Our current Unit of Learning is all about Minibeasts, and Reception has been busy discovering all sorts of fascinating insects and arachnids! (Why not ask your child if they can explain the difference between the two?)

With the lovely weather on our side, we took our learning outside this week. The children recapped some of the minibeasts we’ve studied so far before heading off on an exciting minibeast hunt. Their challenge? To find a fourth creature to add to their record sheet.

We searched in the quiet area and were thrilled to discover several minibeasts hiding beneath logs and other natural materials. Some of the creatures we spotted included ants, bees, butterflies, woodlice, and spiders.

The children are thoroughly enjoying this topic, and their fantastic learning is all building up to our upcoming trip to the Hampstead Heath Education Centre, where they’ll take part in a workshop called Bugliest Bugs. We’re sure they’ll have plenty of knowledge to impress the staff with when the day comes!
