Year 2 Explore the Great Fire of London and the Legacy of Sir Christopher Wren

Year 2 enjoyed a truly wonderful day on their school trip exploring the history of the Great Fire of London and the remarkable work of Sir Christopher Wren. Our adventure began at the historic Temple Bar where children proudly shared their knowledge of the 17th century, created artwork using quills and constructed churches from building blocks. We examined fascinating artefacts linked to Wren’s life and recited poetry inspired by the period.

We then walked through some of London’s narrow streets, imagining where the fire once raged and enthusiastically acted out the bucket chains used to extinguish the flames. A highlight of the trip was standing in awe before the magnificent St Pauls Cathedral and admiring Wren’s iconic masterpiece.

Our journey continued at St Martin Ludgate, which is another of Wren’s beautiful churches, where the children dressed in 17th century costumes and experienced what life might have been like during that era.

It was a day filled with discovery, creativity and immersive learning that deepened our growing wealth of knowledge about the 17th century.

A huge thank you to Wren 300 for providing such an incredible and inspiring experience!
