Year 2 are learning about habitats in their Science unit this term  and what better way to begin than by exploring the habitats in our very own school garden?

The children were amazed to discover so many signs of spring around the school grounds. They enjoyed identifying different plants, including daffodils, crocuses, flowering trees, deciduous trees and evergreen trees. We even spotted newts! It was very exciting to see so much wildlife thriving in our garden.

In class, we learned that a habitat is a place where animals and plants live, and we were able to see real-life examples all around us. The children carefully observed the plants and discussed which stage of the life cycle they were in;  from budding and flowering to new growth. We also talked about seed dispersal and practised recognising different types of seeds.

We also planted out our green bean plants, which we have been growing since last term. The children were proud to continue caring for them and are looking forward to watching them grow, flower and eventually produce seeds of their own.

It was a wonderful way to bring our learning to life and explore nature right on our doorstep!
