This week, Year 2 had a fantastic hands-on gardening workshop with Connie from School Food Matters. Connie joined us in the school garden to help us plant a variety of delicious and nutritious vegetables including brassicas, turnips, and garden onions.
The children spent the morning exploring the garden, spotting ladybirds, identifying flowers, and getting their hands dirty planting crops. It was a wonderful opportunity to deepen their understanding of where food comes from and why growing your own produce is so important.
This workshop planted the seeds, literally and figuratively, for our upcoming trip to a local farm next term. After the visit, we’ll be making our very own chutney using ingredients from both the farm and our school garden.
Year 2 definitely earned their green fingers today!
