Year 2 have been out in the garden all week for their Geography fieldwork. They are investigating a very important big question: Is the weather forecast always accurate?
Last week, we studied the weather forecast that predicted this week’s conditions. We revisited the meanings of weather symbols and learned why both a high and a low temperature are recorded. We also looked at wind and compass directions, as well as the likelihood of precipitation.
This week, the children went into the garden and collected real data. They recorded the outside temperature using a thermometer, measured rainfall with a rain gauge, tracked wind speed with an anemometer and observed wind direction using a compass and by blowing bubbles to see which way they travelled.
Next week, we will examine all our data to decide whether the forecast was accurate or not.
