Year One have been working exceptionally hard during Assessment Week, and we are incredibly proud of the progress they are making. This week, our learning has been centred around the beautiful text Ocean Meets Sky. The children explored Finn’s dream boat in detail, using a rich range of adjectives to describe its features and developing their understanding of how to construct high-quality sentences.
As a class, we began by drawing and labelling the dream boat together, modelling how to use capital letters, finger spaces and full stops accurately. The children then helped to create shared sentences, demonstrating their growing confidence in applying these key writing skills.
Following this, pupils moved on to independent work where they produced their own fantastic sentences, showcasing both creativity and increasing accuracy. Their enthusiasm, focus and resilience throughout the week have been exemplary, and it has been wonderful to see their writing skills continue to flourish.
