This term, Year 2 have been inspired by the work of Jim Moir, a British artist renowned for his quirky, bold and brilliantly colourful bird paintings. The children thoroughly enjoyed exploring his unique style and learning how to create their own vibrant masterpieces.
Throughout the term, they experimented with a wide range of media, including pencil, pen, watercolour, Indian ink and chalk. Their focus was on developing strong observational drawing skills, paying close attention to shape, outline and careful sketching.
The children learned how to use each medium in different ways; applying pressure lightly and boldly to create different effects, as well as experimenting with holding and flipping their tools to achieve varied marks. They even created striking ink outlines using the ends of cocktail sticks dipped in Indian ink, just like real artists!
For their final pieces, the children combined watercolour washes with bold Indian ink outlines and produced a fabulous large-scale chalk bird, filling the page in true Jim Moir style ; quirky, vibrant and full of personality.
A wonderfully creative term and a job very well done!
