The children had a wonderful visit to St Pancras Church, where they learned all about the season of Advent. After settling into their groups, everyone gathered around the Advent ring to talk about what Advent means and explore some of its traditions. They then moved through four interactive stations based on the themes of Hope, Faith, Joy and Love. At the Hope station, the children wrote their own hopes and hung them on the Tree of Hope and this special tree is now proudly displayed in our classroom! They also enjoyed choosing name stickers, discovering hidden messages with UV light and hunting for tiny “treasures,” all helping them understand Advent in a hands-on, meaningful way.

“This is a gem because God thinks we are gems because we are precious to our friends and family and God,” Kamar.

When they weren’t visiting the stations, the children worked on an Advent worksheet and coloured their own Advent rings. To end the visit, everyone gathered again to light the Advent candles, recap the four themes, and sing a simple Advent song. It was a lovely morning of learning, reflection and excitement as we get ready for Christmas.

We are very grateful to Reverend Sarah, Jonathan, and Rev Dr Mariama Ifode-Blease, who guided the children around the church in their groups. They were wonderful at listening to the children’s questions and ideas and they helped make the visit both memorable and enjoyable, giving the children new knowledge and a truly special experience.

It was so lovely to welcome all the children! They were so well behaved and asked such great questions – we at St Pancras were all very impressed with them. Our Christmas tree had arrived in church just a few minutes before the children did, it is now decorated and twinkling beautifully – do call in to the church to see it! All are welcome to any of our Christmas services and concerts. Blessings, Rev Sarah
