This week, we had an exciting and memorable trip to London Zoo. Before we began exploring, we received a special letter telling us that a penguin had gone missing! We took on the important mission of helping to find it.

We used maps throughout the day to help us navigate our way around the zoo, carefully following routes and identifying different areas. This supported our understanding of how maps can be used in real life. As we explored, we followed clues and directions to help us track where the penguin might have gone.

Our mission led us to the zebra area, where we discovered where the penguin had been spotted. We then used our maps to guide ourselves across the zoo to the penguin enclosure to check that all of the penguins had made it safely back — luckily, they had, which made us feel very proud of completing our mission.

Along the way, we saw a wide range of animals including beautiful butterflies, colourful fish, powerful tigers and lions. We also enjoyed exploring minibeasts, which we found fascinating. We began to talk about where different animals live and made links between animals and their habitats.

We demonstrated fantastic behaviour throughout the day, listening carefully, staying safe and supporting one another. We were excellent ambassadors for our school and showed great enthusiasm for learning. It was a wonderful day filled with adventure, teamwork and real-life learning experiences.
