This week in Reception, we were thrilled when a mysterious box appeared in our classroom. Inside, we found a note from Cinderella’s fairy godmother, who told us she had lost her spells and needed our help. This exciting surprise gave us a real purpose for our writing and encouraged lots of talk, curiosity and imagination.
Together, we revisited how to use capital letters, finger spaces and full stops so that our sentences could be read by someone else—an important step in becoming confident early writers. We also spent time sharing our ideas orally before writing, helping us to build vocabulary and organise our thoughts.
We wrote about Cinderella’s sparkling shoes and her beautiful dress, focusing on saying our sentence out loud, holding it in our heads and writing it down carefully. This supported our growing awareness of how sounds map to letters and how we can use our phonic knowledge to spell words.
We are so proud of how we are developing as writers and how confidently we used our skills to help the fairy godmother. Here is our wonderful work!
