This week the children received a special delivery. A letter from the Jungle Ranger asking for their help to solve a big problem! This was a great opportunity for the children to practice their reading skills as well as their recognition of their tricky words. The children then did a great job helping the jungle ranger to sort the animals that had got muddled up into their correct habitats. We spent time talking about the jungle environment learning about the different layers that make up the rainforest – the emergent layer, the canopy, the understory and the forest floor. We also enjoyed learning facts about some of the animals that live there. The children enjoyed learning about what the different animals like to eat and were fascinated to learn that lions sleep for up to 21 hours a day and that elephants cry when they are sad just like us.

In numeracy this week, we have been learning about height. We began by making decisions about things that are tall and things that are short. The children then organised the jungle animals according to their height, from the shortest to the tallest animal. We started off measuring the different animals’ heights using cubes and then towards the end of the week we learnt how to measure using rulers and tape measures.

Look at all of the fun we have had! Thank you for another wonderful week.
