This is an exciting and important time for Year 6 as they enter their final term in Primary School! With SATs in May, a range of enriching topics, trips, and the much-anticipated Year 6 production, there’s a lot to look forward to.
English
We will begin by finishing Oliver Twist, before moving on to explore one of the classic Sherlock Holmes stories. After that, we will dive into the novel 1873, which links closely to our History work on the British Empire and the Slave Trade.
Science
Our main theme this term is Changing Circuits. First, we’ll wrap up our previous topic on Evolution and Inheritance, then shift our focus to electricity and circuits. Children will revisit key components of a circuit, investigate the effects of voltage, and explore how batteries influence bulb brightness.
History
Our unit of learning focuses on The Slave Trade and the British Empire. Children will examine the origins of the British Slave Trade dating back to the 15th century, learning how Europeans enslaved millions of people from West Africa and transported them across the Atlantic Ocean. We’ll study the ‘Triangular Trade’ and the three stages involved, as well as the eventual abolition of slavery and its continuing impact on British society today.
Religious Education (RE)
Our RE lessons will explore the question: How has the Christian message survived for over 2000 years? We will learn about the role of the Early Church and how the Apostle’s Creed helped protect and pass down core beliefs across generations.
Trips and Transitions
We have several exciting trips planned, including a visit to Camden’s new Highline project. As part of our commitment to a smooth transition, we will support children as they prepare for secondary school—both academically and emotionally.
