We are looking forward to a busy and engaging Spring term where children will continue to develop key skills across all areas of the curriculum, as well as enjoying our School Journey in March!
English
In English, pupils will study The Savage by David Almond, using the text as inspiration for a range of writing, including diary entries, poetry and newspaper articles. Children will also develop their instructional writing skills through engaging activities based on Wallace and Gromit, focusing on clear organisation, precise language and effective use of imperative verbs.
Maths
This term in Maths, children will be learning about shape and measure, including angles and converting between different units of measurement. They will also build on their understanding of fractions, decimals and percentages, developing fluency and applying these skills to problem-solving and real-life contexts.
Science
In Science, our focus will be Light and Sight. Children will learn how light travels and how we see objects, understanding that light moves from a source to our eyes either directly or by reflecting off objects. They will investigate how reflective surfaces change the direction of light and explore how shadows are formed, linking their observations to the idea that light travels in straight lines.
Unit of Learning – Maya and Inca Civilisations
This term’s unit of learning explores the fascinating Maya and Inca civilisations. Children will study the geography of Central and South America, analysing why these civilisations settled where they did. They will interpret historical sources, ask and research historical questions, and use evidence to build a picture of daily life during this time. The unit will also include research into Maya inventions and their impact on modern life, as well as learning about Maya religion and the importance of their gods.
Religious Education (RE)
In RE, children will explore the question: What does it mean to be a Buddhist? They will learn about key Buddhist beliefs, values and practices, developing understanding and respect for different worldviews.
Physical Education (PE)
In PE lessons, pupils will take part in a range of outdoor games and sports, focusing on teamwork, coordination, fitness and fair play.
Computing
Computing lessons will focus on using software applications effectively, developing technical understanding, and learning how to stay safe online. E-safety will be a key part of our learning to ensure children understand how to use technology responsibly.
Homework and Reading
Homework will be set every Friday and is due back by Wednesday. We expect children to read at home for at least 20 minutes daily—an essential habit that supports progress across the curriculum.
