This half term in Year 1, the children will be exploring a rich and engaging curriculum filled with creativity, curiosity and discovery.

In English, we will be using high-quality texts such as The Fox and the Star and The Sweetest Song to inspire our writing. The children will develop their skills through fact files, poetry, recounts and letter writing, while building confidence in speaking and listening through discussion and drama activities.

In Maths, we will be focusing on measurement (length, height, mass and volume) before moving on to multiplication and division, where children will begin to explore counting in 2s, 5s and 10s and understanding equal groups.

Our wider curriculum is equally exciting. In Science, we will learn about different animal groups, while in Geography we will explore maps, our local area and develop our understanding of direction. In RE, we will be learning about Islam and what it means to be a Muslim.

Alongside this, children will take part in Music, PE, Computing, Art and Spanish lessons, developing a broad range of skills. Our PSHE learning will focus on keeping healthy, and in Young Leaders we will explore values such as perseverance and teamwork.

We are also looking forward to special enrichment opportunities this term, including an author visit and a trip to Camley Street Natural Park.
