This term, our DT project has centred around Bengali food, the flavour profiles and the texture of the different types of food. We focused in on making pakoras, which are a crispy, mildly spicy delight from Bengali cuisine. First, we examined the design brief which was ‘To create pakoras using Bengali flavouring for a celebration.’ We then created our own design criteria to help us decide what we wanted our pakoras to look, feel and taste like. We taste tested some different spices such as garam masala, chilli powder and turmeric and decided how much of each spice to put in each pakora. Finally, we made the pakoras this week. We used lots of specific kitchen skills such as using the correct method to safely cut up ingredients, peeling, stirring and deep frying. We then got to taste the fruits of our labour and they tasted magnificent.
