Year 1 had a fantastic time taking part in a maths challenge this week! Working in pairs, the children were tasked with creating a number line to 50 but there was a twist… some of the numbers were missing! The children showed brilliant teamwork and problem-solving skills as they discussed the best strategies to complete their number lines. We heard thoughtful ideas such as, “Let’s put 25 in the middle because it’s half of 50,” and “We should place 50 at the end and 1 at the start, then fill in the gaps.” Others worked collaboratively by splitting the task, with one partner organising numbers 1–20 while the other focused on 20–50. This activity also supported the children in counting on from any given number, strengthening their confidence and fluency with number. It was wonderful to see such strong collaboration, communication, and mathematical thinking. Year 1 worked incredibly well together and showed great confidence in explaining their ideas, well done!
