Twenty-five members of the Year 6 class have returned from Tollesbury, Essex after an incredible 4 days and 3 nights aboard Trinity Lightship. Here is a short summary, along with some photos, showing what they got up to during their School Journey!
After a 2-hour coach journey from Somers Town, the class arrived in Tollesbury ready for their adventure. Because of the high tide, the final part of the journey to the Lightship had to be completed by boat, which added an extra bit of excitement before they had even unpacked their bags! Once on board, the children began with a tour of the vessel, including a trip up to the lookout where they enjoyed fantastic views across the marsh and countryside. The sunny weather made the views even better. After dinner, the children headed out for a night hike before settling down for their first night away from home.
Day two saw the children take to the water as they tried sailing for the first time. It was a new experience for everyone and the warm, sunny weather made it a perfect day to be out on the waves. Later in the day, the class explored the local marshland during the marsh discovery activity. Some children returned a little muddier than others as they searched for crab shells and spotted plenty of evidence of the local birdlife. The evening finished with games and time together back on the ship.
Wednesday brought slightly cloudier skies, but it certainly didn’t dampen the children’s spirits. The class spent the day taking on the high ropes course, where they showed great bravery and determination high above the ground. Later, they tested their aim at the archery range. Throughout the day it was wonderful to see how much the children supported and encouraged each other as they tried new challenges.
On the final day, packed up their belongings and took part in climbing and bouldering. They enjoyed their final lunch and enjoyed their last moments aboard the Lightship before heading back to shore by boat once again. There was a mixture of sadness about leaving such a special place and excitement about returning home to see their families.
The children came back to school with wonderful memories of their adventure. It was fantastic to see their teamwork, resilience and friendships throughout the trip. They represented the school brilliantly and we hope they carry this confidence and positivity with them through the rest of their time in Year 6 and beyond.
