This week in nursery, the children have been learning about feelings and emotions through the story The Colour Monster by Anna Llenas.

We talked about how different colours represent different feelings, such as happy, sad, angry, calm, and scared. The children used this learning to help them choose the correct colour for our feelings chart, supporting their understanding of their own emotions.

We also explored the beginning, middle, and end of the story, helping the children develop their listening skills and understanding of simple story structure.

The children practised speaking in full sentences to explain how they were feeling and why. We encouraged them to use the connective “because”, for example, “I feel happy because I am playing with my friends.” This helped to build confidence, language skills, and emotional awareness.
